As a postdoctoral scientist at Dr. Chet Sherwood's lab, Dr. Gómez-Robles studies brain evolution, with particular emphasis on the evolution of language and communication. In order to do this, we are evaluating brain asymmetries in language-related areas at the macro- and microstructural level in different primate species, with particular focus on the comparison of chimpanzees and humans.
- Evaluation of cortical asymmetries in language-related areas in chimpanzees and humans.
- MRI-based study of the relationship of gross morphological asymmetries with behavioral lateralization and communicative abilities in chimpanzees.
- Geometric morphometric analysis of dental variation in hominins.

Dr. Gómez-Robles has a very general interest in human evolution that ranges from classic descriptive studies of hominin fossils to EvoDevo questions and philosophical accounts of what makes us humans. During her Ph.D. research she had the opportunity to study mostly dental remains corresponding to the Pleistocene European fossil record, combining classic evaluations of dental morphology and modern geometric morphometric approaches in order to contribute new information to the ongoing debates about hominin taxonomy and phylogeny.
