Department of Biological Sciences
Welcome to the Department of Biological Sciences. The Biological Sciences major is one of the most popular in the Columbian College, especially among students preparing for medical, dental, and veterinary programs and graduate programs in biology, zoology and botany. Faculty and graduate students actively engage in research on campus and in field sites around the world, and often collaborate with researchers at one of the many research institutes in the Washington, D.C., area. Faculty in the department teach and pursue research on a broad range of biological topics, from the molecular level to the organismal and ecosystem levels and on organisms covering a broad spectrum of taxonomic diversity.
Each Friday during the academic year the department offers a Friday afternoon seminar featuring special speakers and visiting scholars. The seminars are held at 3:00 p.m. in Corcoran Hall Room 106. For a full listing of the seminar dates and topics, please consult the schedule: Seminar Series.
