The English Department’s Creative Writing program offers an array of courses from an introduction to creative writing to courses on poetry and novels. In 2010, Thomas Mallon and Edward P. Jones joined the Creative Writing's team of professors who are nationally and internationally recognized writers.
Students may choose to major or minor in creative writing and should refer to the Program of Study for prerequisites and requirements.

Fall 2011 – ART OF THE STORY
Tuesdays, 7:00 – 9:00 p.m.
September 13 – December 6, 2011
Led by Tim Johnston
Come and take part in a semester-long fiction workshop! To apply, you do not need academic qualifications or publications. The class will include some readings, writing exercises, and inducements to revise, but will mainly be a roundtable critique of work submitted by class members. There are no fees to participate in the class, but you will be responsible for making enough copies of your stories for all fifteen participants. Students at Consortium schools (including GWU) are not eligible.
To apply, please submit a letter of interest and a 5-10 page sample of your writing. Make sure you include your name, address, home and work telephone numbers, and email address. If you wish to have your sample returned, please include a self-addressed, stamped envelope. Applications must be received at the following address by close of business on Wednesday, 31 August 2011:
