Undergraduate Studies
The Department of English offers a unique learning experience for talented students who want to work directly with some of the nation's top scholars. The flexible structure of the English major permits each student, with the help of a faculty advisor, to create an individualized major program. Students receive a top tier education and the option to participate in study abroad and honors programs. Upon graduation, students are prepared for a variety of career paths. (Companies visiting campus often ask specifically to see English majors, valuing their skills in analysis and communication.) In 2012, English graduates went on to:
- Attend Law School
- Participate in Teach for America
- Embark on various masters programs including book publishing, education, and creative writing
- Work at non-profits
- Work in the private sector
- Travel to foreign countries for post-graduate studies
George Washington University Writing Center
The GW Writing Center conducts free, one-on-one sessions with undergraduate and graduate students to assist students with course writing assignments, research papers, theses, and personal statements.
