Background
Douglas Boyce was born in New York City in 1970. He holds an a B.A. degree in Physics and Music, with honors from Williams College, an M.M. from the University of Oregon and a Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania. His work has been been awarded the League of Composers ISCM Composers Award (2005), the Salvatore Martirano Prize (2006), and the Robert Avalon Prize (2010). He was recently awarded a Fromm Commission for his work with Trio Cavatina. His works have been released on Capstone Records and New Dynamic Records published in the Society of Composers, Inc. Journal of Music Scores. He is Associate Professor and Chair of Music at The George Washington University in Washington, DC, and is a founding member of the New York new music collective counter)induction. Current projects include Brief Interventions, a video and compositional project for the ensemble Beta Collide, Bell's Action for cello and percussion commissioned by the Rocha-Pittenger Duo, On The Opticks for large chamber ensemble and electronics (with visual artist Siobhan Rigg), and a work for the piano trio Trio Cavatina commissioned by the Fromm Foundation.
