Current Research
I earned my Ph.D. in Clinical/Community Psychology at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and have been a faculty member at GWU since 2001. In my research, I examine romantic and family relationships within a cultural context and the ways in which couples cope with stressful life transitions. My interests lie in the determinants of relationship quality and stability with a particular focus on the influence of social networks as a risk and protective factor. I am currently conducting an NIMH-funded study of African American and Latina adolescent mothers' relationships with their children's biological fathers during the transition to parenthood. The goals of the this study are to further our understanding of the development of the co-parenting process, the predictors of father involvement, and the impact of father involvement on young parents' mental health functioning.
